“Bridging the Gap” Summer Program is open to all interested students, whether or not they are currently enrolled in Cornerstone Academy-International Language Program. Students holding any type of visa (F1, J1, B1, etc.) are welcome to register, as are domestic students. There is something offered for everyone throughout the day. The morning ESL segment is geared toward students from beginning levels to moderately advanced levels. While the afternoon Test Preparation courses are geared for low intermediate to advanced high school students, who are required to pass TOEFL or SAT (English and Math) to qualify for entrance into colleges or universities in America. In the afternoon, there is also a separate and complete, intensive refresher/remedial course for High School Math. (High school credit for both ESL 1-4 or Advanced Algebra and Pre-Calculus will be given upon request.)

In the ESL program, students will follow a progressive thematic week, emphasizing introduction of a variety of San Francisco / Bay Area sightseeing destinations. Through academic readings, students will become familiar with the history, attractions, and current events or issues connected to that destination, and in conjunction, strengthen reading comprehension, academic writing, pronunciation, speaking, listening, and grammar skills through project-based learning. Included in this program are weekly, entire-day field trips to selected attractions, encouraging students to interact with the environment they are studying. In this arena, students will practice the English skills they desire to master. With this intensive, interactive program, students will gain knowledge about the San Francisco Bay Area, increases their current level of English, and display that achievement through a culminating scrapbook project to share with their friends and families.

The Test Preparation courses will be held 4 days a week, (no class on Wednesday allowing individualized studying and preparation periods for the practice exercises centering on material learned the previous days. (Optional practice materials are also available during this time of study.) TOEFL and SAT courses will focus on skill building, test-taking speed, and strategies. Each week students will focus on developing competency in the different skill of reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Extensive vocabulary practice will be integrated in all dimensions of the program.
